I'm assuming it's a taroitidnal regular diaper with pins right? If it's a fold the front corners in, then place the baby on it, pull the back corners up and secure it tightly with a pin or snappi, If you can stick more than one finger in any part of the diaper it's too loose and it will leak. Then once it's secured put a waterproof on it. Something you may suggest to your sister is the , they have snaps on them so you don't have to worry about pins and it adjusts easily for size. They're more expensive then prefolds but in my opinion they work a lot better and they last longer.
