In response, the White House Correspondentsâ Association, which represents hundreds of credentialed reporters, said it âunequivocally opposes any effortâ to limit journalists from areas that have long been accessible for newsgathering, âincluding the press secretaryâs office.â
âThe new restrictions hinder the press corpsâ ability to question officials, ensure transparency, and hold the government accountable, to the detriment of the American public,â the association said.

As CNNâs Jeff Zeleny explained, reporters routinely âwait in the hallâ by the press secretaryâs office and seek information from communications aides. âWhen there is breaking news, that often happens,â Zeleny said.
Now, âreporters will only have access to a smaller set of offices of junior advisers, junior aides, junior press secretaries,â according to the White House.
